Dietary supplements have been proposed to facilitate recovery and performance optimization, including the phytocannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD). This systematic review aimed to: a) systematize the scientific evidence related to the study of CBD, b) associate the biomedical properties of CBD with those required for optimal fatigue recovery, and c) recommend a future research agenda.  Methods: An integrative systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Searches of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar combined keywords cannabidiol, sport, and recovery from 1990-2022. Studies providing first and second-level scientific evidence were included. After screening 1761 articles, 70 studies were selected for analysis, including preclinical, clinical, and review/meta-analysis designs. Key data extracted included study aims, methodology, dosing, and main results.  Results: The 70 included studies comprised 38.6% preclinical, 31.4% clinical, and 30.0% reviews/meta-analyses, evaluating various populations including mice, rats, epileptics, and athletes. CBD has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, anxiolytic, and analgesic properties, which are potentially beneficial for athlete recovery. Doses ranging from 5 to 600 mg have been administered orally, intravenously, and via other routes. However, rigorous confirmatory research in athlete populations is lacking.  Conclusions:  CBD appears to have beneficial properties for athlete recovery, but further randomized placebo-controlled trials are needed to test the acute and chronic effects of different CBD dosing regimens. Future research should focus on CBD&#8217;s physiological mechanisms of action and comparative effectiveness versus conventional recovery medications. Advancing the scientific understanding of CBD&#8217;s role in athlete recovery could provide new therapeutic strategies.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Objetivos:  La recuperación entre los esfuerzos físicos es fundamental para lograr un rendimiento óptimo en el deporte. Se han propuesto suplementos dietéticos para facilitar la recuperación y la optimización del rendimiento, incluido el fitocannabinoide cannabidiol (CBD). Esta revisión sistemática tuvo como objetivo: a) sistematizar la evidencia científica relacionada con el estudio del CBD, b) asociar las propiedades biomédicas del CBD con las requeridas para una recuperación óptima de la fatiga y, c) recomendar una agenda de investigación futura.  Métodos:  Se realizó una revisión sistemática integradora siguiendo las pautas PRISMA. Se efectuaron búsquedas en PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science y Google Scholar combinando las palabras clave cannabidiol, deporte y recuperación entre 1990-2022. Se incluyeron estudios que proporcionaron evidencia científica de primer y segundo nivel. Después de examinar 1761 artículos, se seleccionaron 70 estudios para su análisis, incluyendo diseños preclínicos, clínicos y de revisión/metaanálisis. Los datos clave extraídos incluyeron objetivos del estudio, metodología, dosificación y principales resultados.  Resultados:  Los 70 estudios incluidos comprendieron 38,6 % preclínicos, 31,4 % clínicos y 30,0 % revisiones/metaanálisis, evaluando diversas poblaciones que incluían ratones, ratas, personas con epilepsia y atletas. El CBD demostró propiedades antiinflamatorias, neuroprotectoras, ansiolíticas y analgésicas potencialmente beneficiosas para la recuperación deportiva, con dosis que van de 5 a 600 mg administradas por vía oral, intravenosa y otras vías. Sin embargo, falta investigación confirmatoria rigurosa en poblaciones de atletas.  Conclusiones:  El CBD parece tener propiedades beneficiosas para la recuperación deportiva, pero se necesitan más ensayos aleatorizados y controlados con placebo para probar los efectos agudos y crónicos de diferentes regímenes de dosificación. Las investigaciones futuras deben centrarse en los mecanismos fisiológicos de acción del CBD y la eficacia comparativa frente a los medicamentos de recuperación convencionales. Avanzar en la comprensión científica del papel del CBD en la recuperación de los atletas podría proporcionar nuevas estrategias terapéuticas.]]></p></abstract>

Resultados: Os 70 estudos incluídos compreenderam 38,6% pré-clínicos, 31,4% clínicos e 30,0% revisões/meta-análises, avaliando várias populações, incluindo camundongos, ratos, epiléticos e atletas. O CBD demonstrou propriedades anti-inflamatórias, neuroprotetoras, ansiolíticas e analgésicas potencialmente benéficas para a recuperação de atletas, com doses variando de 5-600mg administradas por via oral, intravenosa e outras vias. No entanto, faltam pesquisas confirmatórias rigorosas em populações de atletas.
