Por lo tanto, determinar las causas de estas infecciones durante la hospitalización puede apoyar la planificación de la atención en salud, con el objetivo de ofrecer cuidados que promuevan la reducción de estas infecciones.  Objetivo:  Identificar factores relacionados con infecciones asociadas a la atención médica en personas atendidas por causas externas en una unidad de cuidados intensivos.  Métodos:  Estudio epidemiológico transversal, extraído de historias clínicas de pacientes ingresados en la unidad de cuidados intensivos de un hospital general del interior de Bahía. Los datos fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptiva y se utilizó la prueba chi-cuadrado de Pearson para verificar los factores asociados.  Resultados:  Hubo asociación entre la infección y las variables: raza/color (p valor= 0.017), tipo de causa externa (p=0.010), naturaleza de la lesión (p=0.002), segmento corporal afectado (p=0.001 ), tiempo de estancia en UCI (p&lt;0.001), cirugía (p=0.030), fármacos vasoactivos (p&lt;0.001), ventilación mecánica invasiva (p&lt;0.001), tiempo de ventilación mecánica invasiva (p&lt;0.001), enfermedad renal aguda falla (p=0.001), catéter urinario permanente (p&lt;0.001), catéter nasoenteral (p&lt;0.001), catéter venoso central (p&lt;0.001), presión arterial invasiva (p&lt;0.001), lesión por presión (p&lt;0.001) y cultivo (p&lt;0.001).  Conclusión:  La identificación de factores asociados a infecciones relacionadas con la atención sanitaria en personas tratadas por causas externas puede contribuir al desarrollo de protocolos y técnicas de control destinados a reducir las infecciones en las unidades de cuidados intensivos y garantizar la seguridad de las personas atendidas.]]></p></abstract>

Portanto, determinar suas causas durante a hospitalização poderá subsidiar o planejamento da assistência em saúde, objetivando ofertar cuidados que promovam a redução dessas infecções.  Objetivo:  identificar os fatores associados às infecções relacionadas à assistência à saúde em indivíduos atendidos por causas externas em uma unidade de terapia intensiva.  Métodos:  estudo epidemiológico transversal, elaborado a partir de prontuários de pacientes internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva de um hospital geral. Os dados foram analisados através da estatística descritiva e utilizou-se o teste de qui-quadrado de Pearson para verificar os fatores associados. Resultados: verificou-se associação da infecção com as variáveis: raça/cor (p valor= 0,017), tipo de causa externa (p=0,010), natureza da lesão (p=0,002), segmento corporal afetado (p=0,001), tempo de internação na UTI (p &lt;0,001), cirurgia (p=0,030), drogas vasoativas (p&lt;0,001), ventilação mecânica invasiva (p&lt;0,001), tempo de ventilação mecânica invasiva (p&lt;0,001), insuficiência renal aguda (p=0,001), sonda vesical de demora (p&lt;0,001), sonda nasoenteral (p&lt;0,001), cateter venoso central (p&lt;0,001), pressão arterial invasiva (p&lt;0,001), lesão por pressão (p&lt;0,001) e cultura (p&lt;0,001).  Conclusão: a identificação dos fatores associados às infecções relacionadas à assistência à saúde dos indivíduos atendidos por causas externas poderá contribuir para elaboração de protocolos e o desenvolvimento de técnicas de controle visando redução das infecções nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva e a segurança do paciente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction:  Healthcare-associated infections in individuals hospitalized for external causes pose a challenge for the intensive care unit team. Therefore, determining the causes of these infections during hospitalization can support healthcare planning, with the aim of providing care that promotes the reduction of these infections.  Objective:  To identify factors related to healthcare-associated infections in individuals treated for external causes in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  Methods:  Cross-sectional epidemiological study, drawn from medical records of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of a general hospital in the interior of Bahia. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Pearson's Chi-square test was used to verify associated factors.  Results:  There was an association between the infection and the variables: race/color (p value= 0.017), type of external cause (p=0.010), nature of the injury (p=0.002), affected body segment (p=0.001), length of stay in the ICU (p&lt;0.001), surgery (p=0.030), vasoactive drugs (p&lt;0.001), invasive mechanical ventilation (p&lt;0.001), invasive mechanical ventilation time (p&lt;0.001), acute renal failure ( p=0.001), indwelling urinary catheter (p&lt;0.001), nasoenteral catheter (p&lt;0.001), central venous catheter (p&lt;0.001), invasive blood pressure (p&lt;0.001), pressure injury (p&lt;0.001), and culture (p&lt;0.001).  Conclusion:  Identifying factors related to healthcare-associated infections in individuals treated for external causes may contribute to the development of control protocols and techniques aimed at reducing infections in the Intensive Care Unit and ensuring patient safety.]]></p></abstract>
