La educación es un proceso de formación integral de las personas, que requiere de actualización permanente para satisfacer las demandas de la sociedad actual. Es un medio para construir sociedades inclusivas, fortalecer y promover el bienestar y el desarrollo social.  Objetivo.  Este ensayo tiene por objetivo reflexionar sobre la orientación sexual diversa como una diferencia social y cultural que impacta en la salud mental y bienestar de las personas por la falta de aceptación personal y del rechazo social.  Desarrollo.  La educación puede contribuir en la creación de comunidades inclusivas y promover la salud mental. Desde el proceso formativo de la educación secundaria se puede promover la salud mental del estudiantado mediante el desarrollo de competencias socioemocionales y de las fortalezas de carácter.  Conclusión.  Derivado de la revisión y discusión teórica se propone incluir la autoaceptación como una competencia de inteligencia emocional que puede desarrollarse a través del aprendizaje socioemocional durante la educación secundaria mediante orientación, talleres y grupos de apoyo social para estudiantes y sus familias.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction.  Education is a process of comprehensive training of individuals. It requires permanent updating to meet the demands of today&#8217;s society. It is also a means to build inclusive societies, strengthen, and promote well-being and social development.  Objective.  This essay aims to reflect on diverse sexual orientation as a social and cultural difference that impacts people&#8217;s mental health and well-being due to the lack of personal acceptance and social rejection.  Development.  Education can contribute to create inclusive communities and promote mental health. From the formative process of secondary education, the development of socio-emotional skills and character strengths can promote the mental health of students.  Conclusion.  As a result of the review and theoretical discussion, this essay proposes the inclusion of self-acceptance as an emotional intelligence competence. In addition, socio-emotional learning during secondary education can help develop this competence via orientation, workshops, and social support groups for students and their families.]]></p></abstract>
