<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.sa.cr/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S1409-42582015000300218&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.sa.cr/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S1409-42582015000300218&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.sa.cr/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S1409-42582015000300218&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen:Este artículo presenta a modo de ensayo reflexivo la situación actual educativa de alumnos sobredotados (con mayor inteligencia que el promedio) en América Latina y el potencial de utilizar programas basados en competencias dentro de la educación diferenciada (destinada para personas con capacidades superiores), sector en el cual se han realizado escasos estudios científicos y aún no se crea un consenso sobre un "modelo educativo ideal". Actualmente, esta población estudiantil, en general, carece de atención educativa especializada destinada a detectar y desarrollar sus capacidades cognitivas, por lo que se estima que un alto porcentaje de esta (95%) no es detectada en un sistema educativo tradicional. Aunque existen modelos de educación diferenciada para dicho grupo, estos son escasamente aplicados; es por ello que se propone el uso de programas educativos centrados en el alumno como una solución a esta problemática, con la finalidad de buscar una aplicación de este modelo pedagógico con mayor cobertura a este alumnado. Se analizan las características de este programa que lo hacen compatible con la educación diferenciada para personas sobredotadas con experiencias desarrolladas en Estados Unidos, Europa y América Latina. Finalmente, se concluye este ensayo con un análisis de posibles líneas de investigación que, en caso de realizarse en un futuro, permitirían resolver varias incógnitas acerca de la relación y viabilidad entre programas basados en competencias y la educación diferenciada para estudiantes con sobredotación intelectual, quienes por sus capacidades especiales conforman un sector vulnerable dentro de la educación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract:This paper presents, as a reflective essay, the current educational situation of gifted students (with more intelligence than the average) in Latin America and the possibility of using skill-based education within differentiated programs (intended for gifted individuals), a sector where scarce scientific studies have been done and a consensus of an ideal educative model has not been reached yet. Currently these students, in general, lack of specialized educational assistance intended to identify and develop their cognitive abilities, so it is estimated that a high percentage (95%) of such population is not detected in the traditional education system. Although there are differentiated education models, they are rarely applied. A student-centered education program is a solution proposed to apply this pedagogical model and cover such population. The characteristics of this program that do support differentiated instruction for gifted individuals compatible with experiences in the US, Europe and Latin America are analyzed. Finally, this paper concludes with an analysis of possible research areas that, if explored in the future, would help us to find answers about the feasibility and relation between skill-based programs and differentiated education for gifted students.]]></p></abstract>
