The leaf area index (LAI) is an important indicator to measure the health of these plantations related to productivity. The objective of this research is to estimate the LAI from Sentinel images in Eucalyptus grandis plantations. Sentinel satellite images were used to estimate the LAI in the plantations, later the statistical analyzes were carried out by means of a comparison of independent means. Values were obtained as the mean that was 2.0 of the leaf area index in the plantations, these results were very similar to those obtained in other investigations carried out in the field. Therefore, it is recommended to use this methodology in other types of plantations, since it can be used to be applied in other equations to calculate the potential yield of crops.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Las plantaciones de Eucalyptus grandis son de gran importancia, desde el punto de vista social por su gran valor comercial, y desde el punto de vista ecológico porque son capaces de albergar cierta biodiversidad de especies. El índice de área foliar (IAF) es un indicador importante para medir la salud de estas plantaciones relacionado con la productividad. El objetivo de la presente investigación es estimar el IAF a partir de las imágenes Sentinel en plantaciones de Eucalyptus grandis. Se utilizaron imágenes de satélite Sentinel para estimar el IAF en las plantaciones, posteriormente se realizaron los análisis estadísticos mediante una comparación de medias independientes. Se obtuvieron valores como la media que fue de 2.0 del índice de área foliar en las plantaciones, estos resultados fueron muy similares a los obtenidos en otras investigaciones realizadas en campo. Por lo que, se recomienda usar esta metodología en otro tipo de plantaciones, ya que puede servir para aplicarse en otras ecuaciones para calcular el rendimiento potencial de cultivos.]]></p></abstract>
