La metodología contempló la construcción de un modelo de programación lineal entera mixta, resuelto mediante la programación por metas, que tiene como novedad que incorpora el indicador ambiental de las emisiones de carbono asociadas a la configuración, para valorar y afrontar el cambio climático. El modelo propuesto para definir la configuración óptima permite decidir desde los proveedores de los materiales hasta la incorporación de posibles centros de distribución al cliente. Para demostrar su utilidad, el modelo se aplicó a la configuración de la cadena de suministros de un refresco. Entre los principales resultados se determinó que la configuración que minimiza el costo puede ser distinta de la que minimiza las emisiones de carbono, ya que entre una y otra se presentan variaciones tanto en el número de instalaciones que operar como en la selección de los proveedores de los materiales. El modelo representa la ventaja de generar una configuración que reduce las emisiones de carbono manteniendo los costos totales de operación cercanos a los valores óptimos. Al contribuir a mitigar el cambio climático mediante la reducción de la huella de carbono de la cadena de suministros, el modelo resulta de gran utilidad tanto para empresas como para responsables de establecer políticas para el medio ambiente.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract An optimization model of a supply chain network is proposed in this research, aimed to analyze the impact of decisions on the supply chain, to assure sustainable development in terms of climate change. This optimization model was carried out by way of a mixed integer linear programming problem which was solved by goal programming. The model developed in this research differs from traditional supply chain network models because, in addition to economic indicators, it incorporates carbon emissions as an environmental indicator to value and mitigate climate change. The model was applied to the supply chain network of a refreshment produced and commercialized in Costa Rica. Among the results obtained, it was found that the configuration related to an environmental indicator, carbon emissions, may differ from that obtained by optimizing costs alone. In addition, it was possible to define a supply chain network to reduce carbon emissions without resulting in a significant operating cost increment. Capable of disclosing actions to mitigate climate change, the model constitutes an advantageous tool for commercial enterprises as well as for ambient policy regulation entities.]]></p></abstract>
