Aun- que se reconocen varias ventajas propias de esta disciplina, su aplicación y aprovechamiento han sido limitados en las regiones tropicales. Con el fin de evaluar el potencial de uso del MDS se desarrolló un ejercicio de mapeo de 3 atributos de la fertilidad del suelo, el pH, la acidez y la CICE en una zona agrícola con influencia de 3 cooperativas en la región occidental del Valle Central de Costa Rica, para lo cual se empleó el marco conceptual scorpan-SSPFe propuesto por McBratney et al. 2003. Para realizar el ejercicio se utilizaron 384 resultados de análisis químicos de suelos, cada uno de ellos, con su respectiva ubicación geográfica, un modelo de elevación digital con resolución espacial de 30 m, imágenes satelitales disponibles para el periodo de estudio y registros climáticos del área de interés. A partir de dichas fuentes de información se generaron 24 capas de covariables espaciales que permi- tieron ajustar modelos lineales para inferir la variabilidad espacial de los atributos propuestos. Finalmente se evaluó la incertidumbre asociada a las predicciones, su alcance global y las limi- taciones metodológicas en función de su posible implementación en otras regiones de producción agrícola en contexto similar.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Digital soil mapping (DSM) has become a valuable tool in order to generate accurate and current soil information. It is recognized that digital soil mapping presents some advantages compared to traditional soil surveys. Despite the growing demand for soil information, application of digital soil mapping in tropical context is still insufficient. In order to evaluate the potential use for DSM in agricultural zones managed by cooperatives in the Western Central Valley of Costa Rica, an exercise was performed to mapping three soil fertility properties (pH, acidity and ECEC) using the scorpan-SSPFe conceptual model proposed by McBratney et al (2003) as basis. Data from 384 soil fertility tests, a digital elevation model (30 m spatial resolution), satellital imagery and climatic records were the inputs to build 24 covariates layers. There were adjusted linear model to make inferences about soil spatial variability and the uncertainty related to prediction was evaluated. The results are presented by each one of the 3 soil fertility attributes, also a global evaluation of scope and constraints of the proposed methodology as an opportunity to be implemented in other agricultural regions in similar contexts]]></p></abstract>
