La Yugawaralita es un mineral del grupo de las zeolitas, propio de fuentes termales, campos geotérmicos, complejos volcánicos básicos muy alterados, tanto piroclásticos como lavas, también se ha reportado como de origen metamórfico de contacto. El método de trabajo fue la geología de campo, petrografía microscópica y macroscópica, así como difractometría de rayos X (XRD), dos de las muestras mostraron zeolitas, en los afloramientos CO89A y CO89C. El afloramiento CO89A, es una arenisca media, gris clara, muy deleznable, con detritos volcaniclásticos bien redondeados y con moderada a buena selección. Aquí la Yugawaralita se presenta como cemento englobando por completo los clastos. El afloramiento CO89C es una lava andesitica-basáltica alterada, con abundante zeolitización, que en ocasiones rellena vesículas. La paragénesis observada es Yugawaralita, Laumontita, Montmorillonita y Calcita. Esta mineralización es blanca masiva, pulverulenta y muy frágil. Debido a la paragénesis Yugawaralita + Laumontita, la ausencia de fuentes termales y la presencia de rocas altamente silicificadas producto del metamorfismo de las intrusiones con tendencia máfica entre Copey y Santa María de Dota, se infiere que las zeolitas son producto del metamorfismo de contacto asociado a la Facies de Zeolitas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Yugawaralite (Ca(Al2Si6)O16·4H2O) is reported for the first time in Costa Rica in the area of Copey de Dota. Yugawaralite belongs to the zeolite group, and can be found in hot springs, geothermal fields, strongly altered basic volcanic complexes (including pyroclasts and lavas), it has also been reported to be found in contact metamorphism settings. The work method included petrographic microscopy and macroscopy and X-ray diffractometry (XRD), two of the samples collected have zeolites, from the outcrops CO89A and CO89C. The CO89A outcrop has a light gray, well rounded, medium to well sorted, brittle, non&#8208;calcareous medium grained sandstones, with volcaniclastic fragments, in this outcrop the Yugawaralite occurs as cement surrounding the clasts. In the outcrop CO89C there is a severely weathered basaltic-andesitic lava, with abundant zeolites, which fill vesicles. The observed paragenesis is Yugawaralite, Laumontite, Montmorillonite and Calcite, all these minerals are mixed in white massive and brittle aggregates. The Yugawaralite + Laumontite paragenesis, the absence of thermal springs in the area, the presence of silicified rocks nearby due to contact metamorphism caused by mafic intrusions between Copey and Santa María de Dota, suggests a contact metamorphism origin for the zeolites, corresponding to the Zeolite Facies.]]></p></abstract>
