Familia Acanthuridae – cirujanos, cochinitos

 

Acanthurus nigricans, cirujano coliblanca – Pez negro con una franja blanca debajo del ojo y otra alrededor de la boca; parte posterior de las bases de las aletas dorsal y anal y espina caudal color amarillo; cola blanca con una barra amarilla submarginal(UCR 1156-23, 15 cm CC, IC).

Acanthurus xanthopterus, cirujano aleta amarilla – Pez color pardo, blanco en la base de la cola y amarillo en la parte superior de la aleta pectoral. El color puede cambiar a gris pálido con una banda amarilla desde el ojo. Cola semilunar en ejemplares grandes. UCR 1573-19, 11 cm CC, IC).

Acanthurus triostegus, cirujano reo – Pez gris claro con 6 barras angostas en la cabeza y el cuerpo.(UCR 718-1, 15 cm CC, IC).

Ctenochaetus marginatus, cirujano pintado – Color gris a pardo oscuro densamente cubierto con puntos azules; aletas mediales con líneas azules. Aleta caudal semilunar. (UCR 857-12, 15 cm CC, IC).

Prionurus laticlavius, cochinito barbero – Tres espinas en el pedúnculo caudal. Pez color gris con cola amarillo brillante; una barra blanca oblicua que cruza la cabeza.(UCR 770-1, 16 cm CC, IC).

Acanthurus nigricans, whitecheek surgeonfish – Ablack fish with a white marking below eye and around the mouth; posterior bases of dorsal and anal fins and caudal spine yellow; tail white with submarginal yellow bar.

Acanthurus xanthopterus, yellowfin surgeonfish – Abrown fish with a white tail base and yellow upper pectoral fin. Color can change to pale gray with a yellow band running through eye. Tail lunate in large specimens.

Acanthurus triostegus, convict surgeonfish – A light gray fish with 6 narrow black crossbars on head and body.

Ctenochaetus marginatus, blue-spotted surgeonfish – Color gray to dark brown densely covered with blue dots; median fins with blue lines. Caudal fin lunate.

Prionurus laticlavius, chancho surgeonfish – Three thorns on caudal peduncle. A gray fish with bright yellow tail; a dark-edged oblique white bar crossing head.
