Familia Scorpaenidae – lapones, diablos

 
SCORPAENIDAE 1

Scorpaena afuerae, lapón peruviano – Cresta ósea horizontal debajo del ojo. (según Hildebrand, 1946 IC).

Scorpaena histrio, lapón diablo – Cresta horizontal óseo liso en la mejilla; una mancha circular arriba de la base de la aleta pectoral, otras manchas irregulares atrás. (UCR 645-1, 10 cm CC, IC).

Scorpaena mystes, lapón escorpión – Levantamiento horizontal óseo en la mejilla con 2 o 3 espinas grandes; cuerpo con manchas irregulares oscuras; lado posterior de las aletas pectorales color marrón con manchitas blancas.(UCR 433-36, 13 cm CC, IC).

Scorpaenodes xyris, escorpión enano – Aleta dorsal con 13 espinas; dientes palatinos ausentes. (UCR 1154-8, 7 cm CC, IC).

Pontinus sierra, lapón imitador – Tercera espina dorsal no extremadamente larga; color rojo con manchas conspícuasñ espinas anal cortas; dos espinas retrorsas en el borde el preopérculo. (1977-2, 19 cm IC).

Scorpaena afuerae, Peruvian scorpionfish - Horizontal bony ridge below eye with 3 or 4 spines, head, body and fins bright red with darker mottling and barring on fins.

Scorpaena histrio, darkblotch scorpionfish – Horizontal bony ridge below eye smooth; a round blotch above pectoral fin base, irregular blotches behind.

Scorpaena mystes, spotted scorpionfish – Horizontal bony ridge below eye with 2 or 3 large spines; head and body with irregular dark blotches; posterior side of pectoral fins maroon with white spotting.

Scorpaenodes xyris, rainbow scorpionfish – Dorsal fin with 13 spines; palatine teeth absent.

Pontinus sierra, imitator scorpionfish – Third dorsal-fin spine not greatly elongated; color red with irregular pupil-sized spots on back; anal-fin spines short; two retrorse spines on preopercular margin.

Apuntes/Notes: Las especies de Scorpaena con 12 espinas dorsales y dientes palatinos presentes.



SCORPAENIDAE 2

Pontinus clemensi, pez-escorpión – Segunda y tercera espinas dorsales alargadas o de igual tamaño; cabeza y cuerpo rosado cubiertos con pequeñas manchas negras; manchas formando barras en la aleta caudal. (UCR 1579- 1, 40 cm CC, IC).

Pontinus strigatus, lapón espina-larga – Segunda y tercera espinas anales alargadas, la tercera es de mayor longitud. (UCR 725-5, 18 cm CC, IC).

Pontinus clemensi, spotted scorpionfish – Second and third dorsal-fin spines elongated, of equal length. Head and body pink covered with small black spots; spots forming bars on caudal fin.

Pontinus strigatus, longspine scorpionfish – Second and third dorsal-fin spines elongated, third spine the longest.
