ESCALANTE HERRERA, Ana Cecilia  e  RAMIREZ MONTES, Ana Leonor. The effects of Covid-19 for women in Latin America and the Caribbean. Relac. Int. [online]. 2022, vol.95, n.2, pp.31-53. ISSN 2215-4582.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/ri.95/1.2.

This article discusses, from a gender equality perspective, the main effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on women in Latin America and the Caribbean. Based on secondary sources, it presents a synthesis of the main impacts that have deepened the gender inequalities and violence against women that existed before the pandemic, especially in the field of work and care. It emphasizes that, to reverse its negative effects and avoid the deepening of inequalities, in the long term, it requires the incorporation of the needs and interests of women in the approach to the emergency. Autonomy and equal participation of women are also critical in the decision-making process and the elaboration of public policies for mitigation and recovery from the economic and social crises caused by the health pandemic.
