ROSABAL VITORIA, Satya y SOLIS VARGAS, Yors Guillermo. Curriculum management in public schools in Costa Rica during the COVID-19 virus pandemic. Innovaciones Educativas [online]. 2020, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.228-242. ISSN 2215-4132. http://dx.doi.org/10.22458/ie.v22iespecial.3225.
This paper’s primary goal is to analyze curriculum management’s role in public schools in pandemic times caused by the COVID-19 virus in Costa Rica. Accordingly, a qualitative methodology will be applied, which consists of a bibliographic study. Secondly, semi-structured interviews will also be applied to the management staff of the different administrative modalities in the public education system. The outcomes of the analyzed data highlight the strategies and the skills that desirable for management staff, particularly in the curriculum management domain, while facing the challenge provoked by the health crisis.
As a final reflection, the need to implement the complexity paradigm as a timely model in the face of the current situation is reviewed. Likewise, the need to rethink teacher and leader training, as well as the vision and professional practice for the country’s future teachers and educational leaders before the eventual loss of public schools’ physical space, is discussed.
