BORDON OJEDA, Marisa. Households headed by women and men: time use and inequalities. Economía y Sociedad [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.59, pp.48-62. ISSN 2215-3403. http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/eys.26-59.3.
This paper aims to confirm economic and social inequality between households headed by women versus by men in Costa Rica. For this, the variables of time dedicated to different activities and income received by both heads of households will be taken into account, based on sample data obtained in the National Survey of Time Use 2017. Average data of variables of the heads of household time and income were used in the analysis. As a result, differences are verified between the time dedicated to unpaid and paid work by male and female heads of household, as well as differences between the remuneration received for their main activity. This evidence leads us to reflect on the need to implement public policies that compensate for the unequal situation suffered by households headed by women.
