VILLAMIZAR CANAS, María de los Ángeles. Active Methodologies that Teach through Play and Engaging the Interest of 5-6 Year-Old Preschoolers. Educación [online]. 2021, vol.45, n.2, pp.566-576. ISSN 2215-2644.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/revedu.v45i1.42861.

Active methodologies, as strategies for constructive learning through play, interest and active participation at the preschool early learning stage, are based on meaningful, cooperative and participatory learning through exploration, discovery and fun. Students are the protagonists of such methodologies. The instructor serves as the facilitator and guides the teaching-learning process. Inclusion of these methodologies among 5–6-year-olds has been prioritized for purposes of transition from preschool to primary school as a mandatory step of formal education. The initial approach entailed project-based learning in which children were the creators of a final product, supported by learning based on problem-solving. The objective was to develop interactive and participatory group awareness using active methodologies in a regular classroom that adapted its curriculum and daily lessons, for purposes of this study. New knowledge acquisition was based on obtained pre-knowledge. Analysis of results obtained throughout the school year reveal that new strategies and methodologies contributed to significant, life-long learning among the students, thus marking a developmental milestone.
