Abstract

GARCIA SEGURA, Sonia. Challenges in Teacher Training in an Intercultural bilingual model: case study of the Purépecha region (Mexico). Educación [online]. 2021, vol.45, n.2, pp.107-122. ISSN 2215-2644.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/revedu.v45i1.43583.

Teachers employed in the Purépecha region of Michoacán, Mexico face many different challenges in a community which is characterized by its linguistic and cultural diversity. This study is based on a methodology involving a series of interviews conducted with teachers in this intercultural bilingual education system. Results demonstrate that teacher education and training is a key element to successfully understanding and engaging with students in the aforementioned setting. Educational policies must be established not only to address teacher training, but to also allocate resources accordingly that foster the development of a quality intercultural educational model for all educational levels.
