In this paper the author analyses the lexical vitality of the marine word “amarrar” in Costa Rican Spanish basing on three criterions: geographical spread, semantic richness and derivative capacity; for theese reasons the term “amarrar” expands the context of use and constitues new derived words: derived lexemes or phraseologisms.
