Abstract

HERNANDEZ DELGADO, Mario. Patterns of insertion of trending features in DRAE definitions. Káñina [online]. 2016, vol.40, suppl.1, pp.85-97. ISSN 2215-2636.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rk.v40i3.29062.

The aim of this paper is to show a set of linguistic resources that are used in DRAE (2001) to mark the insertion, within the definitions of certain lexemes, of features associated with the semantic content of such lexemes in a trending way. The existence of two types of insertion patterns of trending features was found. The first one related to prevailing trends and the other one related to marginal trends. It is argued that both types of information are additional to the distinctive definitional configuration and therefore they have to be taken as complementary to the definitional proposition and not as part of it.

Keywords : lexicographic definition; distinctivity; informativeness; definitional patterns; definitional features.
