CASTRO DELGADO, Gilberto. Lexicon and metaphor: from old latin to spanish. Káñina [online]. 2016, vol.40, suppl.1, pp.77-84. ISSN 2215-2636.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rk.v40i3.28886.

The aim of the present study is to make a conceptual description of the primitive Latin lexicon and how that lexicon is used in Spanish nowadays, but strongly modified in its semantic configuration. It will be argued that the primitive lexicon of the Latin language, concerning to rural and religious activities, reached an important status in the social life of the Romans, adopting a great role among various human and civil activities as judicial, military and moral tasks, due to the metaphorical extension that the words can obtain.

It is important to say that metaphor is a vehicle of intentional transposition of the meanings of the words, especially how they behave at the pragmatic level.

Palavras-chave : metaphor; lexeme; old Latin; etymology; semantics.
