This paper describes the work of the Centre for Caribbean Lexicography over the past forty-two years, from the time of its launch as a single lexicography project in Caribbean English, through to the establishment of the Caribbean multilingual lexicography project up to merging of the two projects into one Centre for Caribbean Lexicography. The paper also shows the work done in the past by Richard Allsopp, who founded the first project and by his wife Jeannette Allsopp, who joined him in the production of the Dictionary of Caribbean English Usage (DCEU) (1996) and later, Jeannette Allsopp’s efforts to extend the work to the other major official languages of the Caribbean, and make it multilingual, producing first the Multilingual Supplement to the DCEU and later, the Caribbean Multilingual Dictionary in English, French, French Creole and Spanish (CMD) (2003). The authors also explain that this work is not confined only to lexicography, but also includes university lexicography programs from undergraduate to doctoral level. In addition, it refers to the numerous publications produced by both Richard and Jeannette Allsopp, their research workshops and all the work that continues to be done now, which will continue with Jeannette Allsopp, founder and first director of the Centre, as well as with the new director, Jason Siegel.
