GARCIA, Carlos Enrique Guillén; ROJO, Amanda Mogollón; ALBARRAN, Mirian Josefina Dávila  y  ARRAGA, Katherina Boscán. Monitoring of panelera cane production through SIG and teledetection tools, years 2016-2017, Mérida, Venezuela. Rev. Geog. Amer. Central [online]. 2019, n.63, pp.204-223. ISSN 2215-2563.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/rgac.63-2.9.

Currently the methodology of evaluation of agricultural production in Venezuela does not allow following or monitoring to accurately know the production. The Venezuela Merida state contributes more than 515,000 MT to the country in various agricultural items. This dimension limits the opportune and truthful capture of productive information; which is why technological alternatives are being used to overcome these limitations. The sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum sp), for panela purposes are being monitored through Sentinel 2A satellite images, from 03/27/2016 and 04/01/2017; and were processed using the QGIS-2.18 software. The agrarian registers were used to establish the areas of training and verification of the applied supervised classification. We identified 379 ha of the crop (30,320 TM of production) for 03/27/2016; and 361 ha (28,880 TM of production) for 04/01/2017. This evaluation identified 51.6% more area (129 ha) obtained by the official Agricultures Institutions of Mérida at the end of 2016, and it is estimated that I exceeded production by more than 50% for the year 2017, since the institution had not consolidated the information.

Palabras clave : Crop monitoring; Sugarcane; Saccharum officinarum sp; Remote Sensing; SIG; Mérida.
