This article seeks to investigate the main historical, theoretical and political elements that marked the origin of the call modern geography from the philosophical, epistemological and methodological exploration that modern science developed and its pragmatic and utilitarian utility in the process of forming the capitalist world market, particularly in the process of colonization. Unlike works that have been written on the subject, here emphasis is placed on the legitimizing role played by the knowledge, knowledge and geographical practices for the transition from feudal to capitalist society, specifically the ascent and consolidation of the bourgeoisie
