From 2011 to 2016, the local wood comsupmtion of primary products diminish from 78,5 % to 66 %. The main aspects affecting the demand for local wood consumption were identified and analyzed. Specifically, three segments of the wood market were characterized and compared, in addition an action plan aimed at promoting an increase in the use of local wood was also made. Consumption and perceptions of wood use were considered in the segments of furniture production, construction and public institutions. The information was mainly collected through 190 surveys, complemented by a bibliographical analysis and interviews with experts. Among the key factors affecting the demand for local wood in the country are the increase in the demand for substitute products, the importation of wood, the cost and quality of the local wood, as well as the lack of information about points of sale, types of species and price of products. The proposal considers technical, economic, political and market aspects to promote greater consumption of local wood and thus enable rural communities and the country to receive the benefits derived from forestry.
