Abstract
LIZANO-LOPEZ, Marvin Vinicio. Horizontal structure of six species of timber trees in forests intervened in the Northern Zone of Costa Rica. Kurú [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.36, pp.2-8. ISSN 2215-2504. http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/rfmk.v15i36.3429.
The horizontal structure was analyzed through abundance and absolute dominance results of six species of timber trees, in forests intervened of the Northern Zone of Costa Rica. A total of 30 Forest Management Units (FMU) were chosen, they have an effective area of forest intervened ≥ 30 hectares. Were divided into two sectors. It was considered information from 434 plots, with data from preliminary inventory (dbh ≥ 10 cm and 30 cm). Census data were obtained with dbh ≥ 60 cm; in a total effective area of 3284.8 ha. The results showed that the Dipteryx panamensis, specie with restricted timber in Costa Rica, it is abundant in the sampled areas in sector 2. Results obtained > 4.22 individuals per hectare with dbh ≥ 10 cm. Tachigali costaricensis, a species with logging ban in Costa Rica, was best distributed according to absolute abundance (N / ha), within sector 2 (p = 0.0026, Wilcoxon); was considered as an abundant species (3.36 N/ha) and dominant (0.406 m²/ha) in this same sector (dap ≥ 10 cm). Species like Hymenolobium mesoamericanum and Lecythis ampla, are little abundant trees, therefore, little dominant is this study. It is important to reconsider the situation of Lecythis ampla, because in Costa Rica there is no logging ban for this species.
