HIDALGO REDONDO, Giselle. Worshiping money, capitalism and humanism. An analysis based on the work of F. Hinkelammert. InterSedes [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.40, pp.178-187. ISSN 2215-2458.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/isucr.v20i40.35661.

A careful analysis of the philosophical construct known as “the religion of the market,” put forward by philosopher and thinker F. Hinkelammert, exhorts us to reflect upon how we are currently influenced by deeply ingrained socio-cultural premises that foster religion-based beliefs, which seem to be absolutely unchallenged, for faith is therein embedded and, due to its intangible nature, it cannot be objectively proven but merely accepted. This, in turn, gives rise to a sort of metaphor by which miraculous properties are ascribed to the market ̶ being regarded as a ubiquitous source of welfare and balance for society in general. On this account, the market is looked up to as a god, the god market, within a reality that promotes the detriment of the less favored social classes in terms of access to the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. We are thus confronted with a socioeconomic reality that calls for an urgent analysis of alternative liberating thoughts and ideas which may seemingly be out of reach or impossible to materialize.
