Abstract
SANDI DELGADO, Juan Carlos and CRUZ ALVARADO, Mainor Alberto. Simulation as electronic resource to enhance the students’ cognitive skills. InterSedes [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.37, pp.2-31. ISSN 2215-2458. http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/isucr.v18i37.28646.
This article brings together the results of the process of developing an electronic resource (simulator) prototype that will allow the students to activate, acquire and develop cognitive skills to enhance the construction of new significant knowledge for road safety skills. The target audience was the Costa Rican primary school’s students, specifically from the Canton of Pococí, Province of Limon.
To cope with the objectives of this study, the qualitative research approach was used. The information was compiled from a literature review and primary data were collected by telephone calls to those in charge of administrative management of several selected schools according to convenience consultations. Secondary information was obtained by collecting of documentary sources from different web sites, such as articles, theses and conference proceedings.
It is concluded that the simulation or simulated learning environments allow the student to activate an ample range of cognitive abilities: short and long term memory, metacognition, reasoning, problem solving and iconic representation, among others.
