The results of a survey on students of the Natural Sciences area of the University of Costa Rica, which was carried out as part of the training activities conducted by the Institutional Network for Training and Evaluation (RIFED), are presented. For the study, the answers given by 71 students from two course works were taken. The main objective of the survey was to determine student perceptions about various topics, including: reasons why they chose a coursework in the area of Natural Sciences, academic training received in high school, their expectations regarding academic issues and jobs, and main characteristics of their teachers. The main findings of the analysis, allow a qualitative and quantitative overview to characterize the students of both course works and have a list of desirable skills needed by teachers in these disciplines.
