JIMENEZ OVIEDO, Yeimi; NUNEZ, Miriam and COTO, Edwin. Outdoor exercise and the elderly. InterSedes [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.27, pp.168-181. ISSN 2215-2458.
This text addresses an analysis of the adults’ physical activity, its benefits and some myths that remain through time. There has been a lot of research within the physical activity domain for different population groups; physiological, psychological and social variables have been analyzed, such us: mood, depression and the satisfaction people gain when they engage in a physical activity. It can be noticeable how the benefits vary proportionally based on health, self-esteem and self-reliance in front of their equals. The results obtained show the existence of benefits in the older adult population, in connection with practicing any recreational activity, just by taking pleasure of these benefits in a comforting environment for the human being that could bring him back to his startup: the human movement in nature. According to the results, one may conclude that recreational activity in a natural environment provides possibilities and benefits for an older adult that would never end. However, the benefits to acquire from it will depend on the professional in charge of the activity, his willingness, and caution in the workspace; the safety protocols and the use of resources for the goal.
