Abstract

RUIZ SANCHEZ, José-Leonardo. About the Confrontation between the Catholic Church and Freemasonry. A look from the Studies on the Church. REHMLAC [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.1, pp.12-26. ISSN 1659-4223.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/rehmlac.v11i1.37158.

Studies on the Anti-Masonic movement formulated from ecclesial positions are usually based on a vision that the Catholic Church is a compact and homogenous institution at all times, also in those matters which are outside the dogma and the doctrine. This globalizing vision, devoid of nuances, even in relation to the evolution in time of the ideas and behavior among Catholics, essentially diminishes serious research due to the lack of arguments, and even being able to reach some inaccurate conclusions. This study is focused on the use of terms like clerical, Ultramontanism, and Catholic press in those pieces of research.

Keywords : Catholic Church; >Freemasonry; Clericalism; Ultramontanism; Catholic press.
