Abstract
LONDONO, Juan Esteban. John of the Cross: Mystical poetry as desire and absence. Comunicación [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.1, pp.20-28. ISSN 1659-3820. http://dx.doi.org/10.18845/rc.v31i43.6279.
The Spiritual Canticle of John of the Cross is studied in this article from the hermeneutic phenomenology, and it is put into dialogue with the literary theory of reading as pleasure to assess its aesthetic, religious and mystical scope. The research confronts the notion of mysticism as plenitude with the perspective of a longing that assumes the absence of this plenitude and, from the perspective of mystical poetry as an expression of an unfulfilled desire, an interpretation of this type of poetry is proposed.
Keywords : John of the Cross; mysticism; poetry; love; absence.
