The integration of new technologies in the context of interpersonal relationships has globally extended the practice of phubbing, a recent social phenomenon that consists in privileging attention towards the mobile phone, rather than attending to the other person’s close presence. For young people called digital natives, the experience of face-to-screen communication is natural. This age group is probably one of the segments of the population who identify the most with the practice of phubbing, although not exclusively, as it also occurs in other groups. On the other hand, active listening is one of the basic postulates of the Person Centered Approach (PCA), formulated by Rogers (1959); considered an essential element for the generation of a favorable climate for human development, it is defined as an attitude of full attention towards the other person, whose objective is getting to understand the deep meaning of his personal narrative, and requiring eye contact for it. Given that face-to-face communication seems to be replaced by face-to-screen communication, it is very pertinent to closely observe what type of relationship young digital natives could build between the exercise of active listening and the practice of phubbing, and its effects on their Human Development, seen from the PCA.
