LABRADA-HERNANDEZ, Geisy  e  CAMPO-YUMAR, Luis Ramón. There are many of those Marcos Perez in Buena Vista! Phraseology and anthroponymy in Cuba. Comunicación [online]. 2021, vol.30, n.2, pp.28-45. ISSN 1659-3820.

Anthroponomastics and phraseology converge in this study, part of the research lines of the Cuban Phraseology Study Group (GEFRASCU). This article seeks to identify the functions performed by proper names in a corpus of sixty phraseological units currently used in Cuban Spanish. Likewise, it also analyzes some of the concrete references of the origin of the expressions and whether they correspond with their meaning or not. The corpus was obtained from general and phraseological dictionaries, then checked and expanded through surveys in the eastern and central regions of Cuba. Its organization was based on the subtype of anthroponym present in each phraseological unit: first name, hypocoristic, surname or hagionym. Among the results of the analysis, the predominance of first names stands out, especially those that have phonetic similarities with the rest of the expression. Characters of biblical origin, the Yoruba religion and other protagonists of anecdotes or popular stories are registered as main referents. Through the vocative function in the phraseological units, the anthroponym loses its primary identifying function to allude to any interlocutor to whom the phrase is addressed, sometimes even obviating the gender distinction. The interdisciplinary explanatory scope of this article’s analysis contributes to a broader understanding of the lexical-semantic configuration of anthroponymic phraseology and allows to describe aspects related to the form, functionality and proverbiality of proper names.
