The experience of working with groups that belong to social movements allows us to recognize an important phenomenon operating within their dynamics: affectivity. This article reflects upon the involvement of activists in these movements, by paying close attention to the emotional component that is displayed while deciding to join or remain in them. It also explores how fear, gossip, rumors and the handling of disputes function within these groups. To do this, a conceptualization is made, using different theories and bringing different experiences as examples. Affects are present in different moments within the social movements and are experienced both individually by the different members, as well as collectively by the group as a whole. The different processes that accompany them impact the potentiality of their work and can even lead to a standstill. This is why it is crucial to know, understand and work upon the affective processes that take place within social movements.
