Abstract

TRIQUELL, Agustina. Making (it) visible questions and possibilities of photographic images in social research. Reflexiones [online]. 2015, vol.94, n.2, pp.120-132. ISSN 1659-2859.

This paper develops a purposeful path of methodologies for working with photographic images in the context of social research. Composed by methodological reflections drawn up under the research for my PhD, we propose to consider the image from several prisms, which combined may enhance the analytical possibilities for Social Sciences in general and Communication Studies in particular. Then we will visit four different and complementary ways of working with images, which can suit for different objectives and research questions. Working with images involves a challenge and a series of decisions that exceed mere illustration of ideas, but rather needs placing the image in the center of discussion. We propose here then some notes and possibilities to carry out this challenge.

Keywords : Visual culture; visual sociology; photography; visual studies; qualitative research.
