The reading practice of young people has not been analyzed from an academic perspective in the costarrican ambit. This article is a descriptive approximation of the reading practices of literary novels of undergraduate and graduate U students of the Rodrigo Facio Campus of the University of Costa Rica. This population was chosen because of being immersed in an academic enviroment. A survey was applied to 121 students from different faculties in order to inquire the format, frequency and schedule of reading of the university students; thus, to identify the most popular novels, genres and themes. Also, the acquisition mode of novels and the quantity of time spent reading were investigated
