Haemoparasitosis in dual purpose livestock, diagnosis and control: a review. This review comes from a doctoral thesis which includes results of research conducted in Venezuela and the world from 1971 to 2009 about four types of hemoparasitosis caused by protozoans and rickettsias, with special attention on mixed infections in bovine livestock, their diagnosis and control. In Venezuela, affections caused by hemotropic agents are distributed in all states with cattle vocation in the country, especially among bovine and buffaloes herds. Between those we found species of the generus Anaplasma (Anaplasma marginale), Babesia (Babesia bigemina and B. bovis), and Trypanosoma (Trypanosoma vivax), which are endemic in the country and show seasonal variations.
