BADILLA BALTODANO, Beatriz et al. Contribution to the development of pharmaceutical education in Costa Rica: professional academic profile of Costa Rican assistencial pharmacist. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.3, pp.544-574. ISSN 1409-4703.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/aie.v18i3.34421.

A contribution is made to the development of pharmaceutical education in Costa Rica, through the development of a research project, which culminates with a proposal of professional academic profile (PAP) of the Costa Rican pharmacist who practices in healthcare pharmacy. This is conceived as the characterization of the type of pharmacy professional that is intended to form higher education institutions, considering not only the academic interests of the universities, but also the labor commitment in the social and health sector. Five pharmacists and curricular advice provided for the National System of Accreditation of Higher Education made up the work team. Methodologicaly the proposal was submitted to three validation processes. The PAP is presented in three areas: cognitive, attitudinal and work. Knowledge of the cognitive area is classified according to the categories established by the Ibero-American Conferences of Faculties of Pharmacy and the Pan American Conference of Pharmaceutical Education. The professional performances were stated according to the functions, activities and tasks established for pharmacists by the International Pharmaceutical Federation, the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization and the Pan American Conference on Pharmaceutical Education. The PAP encompasses the necessary link between the curricular design of the curriculum and the expected professional practice. It is recommended that the universities that offer the pharmacy career consider the inclusion of the criteria from the proposal of PAP as essential for the quality of careers. The recommendation of the National System for the Accreditation of Higher Education is highlighted, as set out in the guide for modifications of accredited careers study plans and the conceptual reference document.
