This article describes the process of developing an inventory of vocational self-efficacy based on various conceptual inputs characteristic of Vocational Guidance and other learning theories through the application of a quantitative research method. It was proposed the construction of the instrument for the measurement of the perceived vocational self-efficacy of students of the Diversified Cycle of the Costa Rican Educational System, in order to offer a tool to the professionals in Counseling for their guiding work in the educational institutions, taking into account the following variables: personal disposition for the management of own vocational development, personal disposition for the exploration and satisfaction of the vocational behavior in the stage of development, personal disposition for the exploration and management of the conditions of the context in the stage of vocational development and personal disposition to transcend gender stereotypes in vocational choice. For the instrumentation of these variables were taken into consideration other studies of quantitative and qualitative nature in addition to the theory mentioned. As a result, we obtained the CAEV, which was initially submitted to a process of validation by expert judgment, and a reliability process applying different statistical tests such as Factor Analysis, Cronbach's Alpha and Hypothesis Testing. In its final version the CAEV has a value of 0,919, it is an one-dimensional scale an all of its items are pertinent to the vocational self-efficacy.
