TAPIA-GUTIERREZ, Carmen Paz; PALMA-MARDONES, Andrea  y  GONZALEZ-PARRA, Karla. Early intervention, perception of mothers children’s with Down Syndrome. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.1, pp.255-277. ISSN 1409-4703.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/aie.v17i1.27226.

Current research in the area of early care emphasize the need to move towards care models that allow the active participation of the family. From this, a study arises that aimed to describe the dimensions of relevant early care for families of children with Down syndrome, who participated in the workshops of the Center for Evaluation and Early Childhood Attention. It is an evaluative research with a qualitative approach, which used a case study design in which four mothers who were conducted semi-structured interviews and later, two of them in depth. The results report two dimensions, (1) professional characteristics: referring to interdisciplinary work, professional commitment and the human component, and (2) participants modes and instances of participation: in which mothers value the workshops as a place of socialization for children and themselves, where they learn, share life experiences and advance in autonomy. Findings allow concluding that the care model considers appropriate professional skills and practices that are at a first level of participation. Thus, it concluded that the workshops raised realize a model of family-ally. This opens a space to rethink the practices of specialized professionals in early care centers as well as in the training institutions, to promote empowerment, participation and autonomy that bring on family-centered models.
