This scientific article presents the results of a research done from 2013 to 2015, whose main objective was to analyze how the hospital pedagogy in Costa Rica is practiced with children under seven years old. The methodology of this research is qualitative and descriptive. The information was collected through observations, questionnaires and interviews done by the researchers. The research includes two hospitals in the country (Institution A and Institution B), which give an educational service to children population. The study concludes that in the institution A is offered specifically hospital pedagogy, the curriculum is adapted to the health condition of children; it is also flexible and dynamic. In the institution B, the curriculum is oriented to the development of language skills of children. It bases its work on a program that belongs to SELC (Service of Language Stimulation and Communication), which is being studied by the moment. On the other hand the study concludes that in the country there is no specific legal framework to support the work of the hospital pedagogy. It is recommended the development of a specific legislation to support the hospital pedagogy and it would spread to other hospitals. Also it is important that universities provide training to teachers about this specific educational approach.
