Resumen

RODRIGUEZMALEBRAN, Carolina; ALTAMIRANOSOTO, Marcela  y  GARCIAASTETE, Margarita. Educational television and natural disasters: chilean students and educators value the use of the educational video in the classroom. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.2, pp.221-245. ISSN 1409-4703.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15517/aie.v16i2.23926.

The use of educational video as a didactical resource has allowed to supplement the students' learning and support the work of the teachers. Even if there are numerous sites on internet which are specialized on educational videos that can be used by teachers in their classrooms, most of these resources have not been valued by their main audience: students and teachers. This article describes the value that students from sixth grade of the public school David Leon Tapia, from Tongoy area in Chile, made about the making of the educational video "Benvoy and the Ants". This video seeks to support the learning of students about the natural disasters, their causes, consequences and prevention. 27 students were asked to answer a survey after having seen the video inside the classroom. Afterwards class teachers answered a semi-structured interview. Teachers were enquired about the contents, types of learning resources and the relation with their environment. We can conclude that most of the respondants said that "Benvoy and the Ants" had helped them to understand natural disasters, evaluating it positively. Regarding the contents, school students showed preference for the episodes about prevention and safety rules that must be taken into account in case of natural disasters and in a second preference the causes and consequences of tsunamis. On the other hand, the teachers praised the plot and the relation to the daily life of the students.
