This study introduces the results from a thorough work performed at the Medical Branch of Medical Sciences, located in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba. It proposes ideas for improving the Health Information technician's professional practices and work-related training, as part of this health professional's education. This research aims for designing a Scientific, Technical and Professional Practice Program to be included in the Health Information Technician's work-related education at this institution. In order to achieve this goal, the documentation for practical environments was reviewed, as well as the different stages and period within the curricula of the internship. It was confirmed that the organization and planning process could not be providing this professional with knowledge and skills. The pedagogical collective is concerned about this quandary, given the contributions basic sciences could give these professionals. Although information technologies - used to support both teaching and learning - are increasingly being used, a general dissatisfaction is linked to the Professional Practices design.
