Abstract

JIMENEZ ESPINOZA, Ericka Isabel. Counseling and Gender: The Opinion of Four Primary School Teachers about your Gender Condition. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.1, pp.818-849. ISSN 1409-4703.

This paper identifies important elements related to a gender perspective that were contributions of participants in a qualitative research experience in which a phenomenological methodology was used. Participants were four primary school teachers from one of the state-subsidised institutions of the North San José Educational Region. In-depth interviews were used to gather information. Group discussion was the technique used for data validation. An important finding is the predominance of hegemonic thinking about what it means to be a woman and to be a man, without a clear awareness that social imagery regarding their social abilities is transmitted to the children they teach. The relevance of Counseling interventions to address the topic are discussed in the paper.

Keywords : educational context; gender; counseling; Costa Rica.
