Abstract

GAETE QUEZADA, Ricardo. The University Social Responsibility from the Perspective of the Stakeholders: A Case Study. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.1, pp.273-302. ISSN 1409-4703.

The article analyzes the university social responsibility concept from the perspective of the meanings attributed to a number of internal and external stakeholders of a Spanish public university. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach through 91 semi-structured interviews, considering the procedures established by the Grounded Theory as a strategy to analyze the information collected. Three themes are identified to describe the concept studied: Relationship between the university and society, management of social impacts of university mission and university responses to social demands. It is concluded that the concept of social responsibility of universities for the studied case, is closely related to the institutional capacity to give back to society what it delivers in terms of funding, for which the university must get closer to stakeholders to know what your needs, allowing you to implement actions that are more efficient to support them in solving social problems.

Keywords : higher education; university social responsibility; case study; grounded theory; Spain.
