This essay presents a reflection about teacher initial training at distance within the field of education in Colombia, mainly from Pierre Bourdieu’s theory. The professionalization of the teaching in Colombia has been a fundamental point in the educational national agenda, being last three decades of the 20th century highly relevant for development of distance methodology in undergraduate teachers’ programs at university level. From then, teachers' initial training at distance has had a positioning inside the field of the superior education in Colombia, fact that has been constituted in a deep agent of change in the national education and that has been clearly permeated by the impact of the information and communications technology, which has allowed it to place inside the new challenges that this training needs.
