Resumen

MARTINEZ BELLO, Vladimir. The relationship between childhood and movement in second grade early childhood education textbooks. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.2, pp.544-565. ISSN 1409-4703.

This article presents a study that analyze the relationship between childhood and movement in the images of Spanish early education textbooks. Images were studied by using a content analysis procedure following a previously code schema with dimensions, categories and indicators. In the analysis process an independent observational group located in Spain participated in the study. The results show mainly a unique body in terms of racial and corporal diversity. There was an equal representation between boys and girls; the presence of the children body is related with outdoor environment and children's bodies can assume different levels of motor activity, but with greater representation of bodies in a static position. In conclusion, this research indicates that, despite the images analyzed ensure visibility in terms of gender equality, there is low representation of children´s disabled bodies. The early childhood education community should incorporate critical thinking about body diversity, different representations and meanings, in order to build alternatives to these dominant representations that can affect young citizens.
