Resumen

GUZMAN LORIA, Patricia Ileana. Assessment of learning in section general chemistry school of chemistry, University of Costa Rica. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.3, pp.283-310. ISSN 1409-4703.

In 2007 research was conducted at the School of Chemistry at the University of Costa Rica, specifically in the General Chemistry Section. The main objective was to identify the characteristics of the process of learning assessment. Its specific objectives were: to characterize the learning process that teachers of the Section implement, to characterize the strategies, procedures, techniques or tools used by teachers in the evaluation process of their students, to relate the learning assessment with the pedagogical approach, and to propose some recommendations to change the teaching and evaluative processes founded. The research was conducted under a qualitative paradigm, during its analysis were used participatory techniques such as interviews with teachers and students, observations of classroom process and focus group. The information collected during the process was triangulated to ensure the accuracy of the findings. The results obtained in this study showed that measurement and evaluation were interchangeable terms; in practice, the only used for the measurement objective is thru written tests with single choice items. It was also determined that the learning process used by teachers at the Section is the traditional, so the lessons are basically lectures. It also demonstrates a lack of knowledge by teachers on techniques for science teaching and learning assessment. Recommendations are presented for teachers, for the Chemistry Section and the School of Chemistry.
