HENRIQUEZ RITCHIE, Patricio; ORGANISTA SANDOVAL, Javier e LAVIGNE, Gilles. New process of interactivity and social interaction: use of smartphones by university students and professors. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.3, pp.262-282. ISSN 1409-4703.
This article presents a study whose purpose was estimating the possession of cell phones by students and teachers from a campus of the Autonomous University of Baja California, Mexico, as well as characterizing their processes of social interaction and interactivity with information. For purpose, it was selected a random sample (12% of students and 24% of teachers) to whom a survey to retrieve information about such aspects. The findings show that 96% of students and 97% of teachers have at least one cell phone (of which 53% and 66%, respectively, are smartphones). Regarding social interaction, students pointed out activities to reach agreements, organize tasks and clarify school activities as the main uses; while teachers use that device to communicate with colleagues or to arrange activities with students. Regarding interactivity with information, both, students and teachers, mentioned the search and recovery as the main school activities from their cell phones. A vast potential of pedagogical use of smartphones can be seen. However, it is necessary to expand the research in order to guide the mediation of these devices in the University educational process.
