Abstract

ARGUEDAS QUESADA, Consuelo. Musical education, disability and needs and interests of childhood and adolescence: an analysis based on the human rights approach. Rev. Actual. Investig. Educ [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.3, pp.52-82. ISSN 1409-4703.

This publication emerges from the investigation performed by the author during her Master degree studies in Human Rights of Children and Adolescents, for the Graduate Program Studies in Social Work at the University of Costa Rica. It proposes musical education as a right of children and adolescents, and, at the same time, as a tool to obtain other Human Rights, based on needs and interests of those populations. Besides, it presents the corresponding methodology to obtain the physical and electronic documents that enriched the topic under study and, at the same time, reasserted the importance of a vivid musical education, in which playful strategies are implemented in order to reinforce people’s creativity and participation without any distinction. Likewise, this investigation describes the categories that give support to this topic, such as Musical Education and Peace, Human Rights Approach, disabilities and needs and interests of Childhood and Adolescence. It pretends to share this information with musical education teachers, parents of children and adolescents with or without disabling conditions, or other people interested in this topic. This makes it an important tool for the guidelines of the Costa Rican Childhood and Adolescence National Policy 2009-2011, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the Code of Childhood and Adolescence.

Keywords : Human rights; musical education; disability; needs of childhood and adolescence; Costa Rica.
