This article makes a comparative analysis of the productivity of full-time academic in Public Technology Institutions and other higher education institutions in Mexico. We worked with the information generated by the study Reconfiguration of the Academic Profession in Mexico "RPAM 2007-2008". General aspects are presented as educational background, gender, and academic productivity aspects associated with teaching and research activities they perform. For teaching activities were considered: hours devoted to teaching, number of groups, and students served, for research activities: hours spent on research, number of publications, conference presentations, patents and belonging to Teacher Improvement Programs and the National System of Researchers. The average total hours per week than academic engaged in teaching and research activities also show that higher education institutions in Mexico are more dedicated to teaching than research, especially in Public Technology Institutions in which scholars spend an average 16.4 hours a week to teaching activities and only 4.1 to research. The analysis of the results allows delineate, in conclusion, that the academic in Public Technology Institutions is much focused on undergraduate massive education, with little time to research.
