Abstract

CAMACHO-BALLESTEROS, Shirley Eliana. Participatory Ecological Restoration: A Youthful Vision From the Territory of Ciudad Bolívar. Educare [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp.479-489. ISSN 1409-4258.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15359/ree.20-2.23.

Abstract: Ciudad Bolivar, a town in Bogotá City, has increased its population dramatically in the last decades, given that it constitutes a confluence centre for the settlement of people migrating from the countryside as a result of various reasons, such as the pursuit of new opportunities or finding a shelter from violence and forced displacement. Such situation implies the use of natural resources and territories according to short term necessities, as well as the lack of planning in the development of the town, which leads to the establishment of territories deprived of natural environments, that reduce life and health quality and constant problems arising for the population. However, children and young people living in these complex environments, arise from hopelessness, promote alternative solutions and longings as a contribution to the improvement of their life quality. These young people become the main subject of this theoretical article, because they face and propose the participatory ecological restoration as a planning mechanism and the memory and construction of a better life. From their experience and reflexive point of view comes a proposal regarding where and how to carry out the ecological restoration process as a sum of actions to strengthen the territorial and environmental values.
